Overview
Kooha is a platform where users can request personalized video messages from their favorite celebrities. With a diverse marketplace, users can choose celebrities, specify message details, and receive custom videos for various occasions.
Context
For Context
As I mentioned earlier, when I joined Kooha in 2023, part of my focus was on designing the influencer panel. It needed to be simple and efficient, giving celebrities an easy way to manage requests, record videos, and interact with their fans without it feeling overwhelming.
I crafted the panel to streamline everything, making it easy for influencers to engage with their audience while keeping the experience smooth and enjoyable on their end.
Solution
Getting the fixes in
We recognized several key touchpoints in the influencer journey that were crucial to their overall experience on the platform. These moments could either enhance their connection with fans or create friction, so I focused on designing them with simplicity and functionality in mind.
The goal was to make managing requests and engaging with fans as seamless as possible. These touchpoints included:
Sign-up and Onboarding
For the onboarding, I focused on creating a ecure experience that included an identity application and verification step to ensure we welcomed only genuine celebrities to Kooha
This involved designing an easy to easy-to-fill-out application form where influencers could share their profiles, social media links and relevant IDs
After that, our team stepped in to review and verify their identities, ensuring a trustworthy environment. If they met Kooha’s eligibility criteria, they received an email with an invitation code, allowing them to continue using the platform and connect with their fanbase.
This approach not only kept things secure but also set the right tone for a supportive and engaging experience from the very start.
Request Management
I designed a request management system that made it easy for them to filter between bookings and direct messages from fans. This feature gave influencers the flexibility to manage both types of interactions efficiently.
With a clear dashboard layout, they could quickly navigate through requests, accept or decline bookings, and engage with fan messages.
also made sure the settled requests feature was seamlessly integrated into the home page so celebrities could easily keep track of their completed bookings.
Video Delivery and Recording
Designed an intuitive recording interface that allows influencers to easily record their personalized messages directly within the app. With clear prompts and a straightforward setup, they can get started quickly without any technical hiccups.
Earnings Dashboard
Designed the earnings dashboard to give celebrities a clear and easy way to track their income from video bookings. The dashboard provides a simple breakdown of their total earnings, pending payments, and completed transactions.
First, I designed a wallet page for celebrities to easily manage their earnings within the app. This wallet feature allows them to track their payments in real-time, showing a breakdown of pending, available, and withdrawn funds.
I then made the withdrawal process straightforward by allowing celebrities to transfer their earnings directly to their bank accounts. With just a couple of clicks, they can initiate the withdrawal, and the app handles the rest.
I also designed a dedicated Fees and Payment section. This area allows celebrities to take control of their booking fees, setting the price they feel reflects the value of their personalized videos.
It also provides clear transparency on how commissions are calculated and deducted, so celebrities have a full understanding of the platform’s earnings structure.
Notification System
Celebrities receive real-time notifications for important updates, like new booking requests, message alerts, and status updates on earnings or withdrawals.
Notifications are neatly categorized into three sections: All, Activity, and Updates. This structure allows celebrities to easily manage and filter through the various types of alerts they receive.
Results
The testing and design work paid off in terms of user experience – we hit some impressive numbers that showed we were on the right track. Users were not just completing their tasks (90% success rate), they were actually enjoying using the app (85% satisfaction). People were spending more time exploring the platform too, with session times up by 40%.
But here's where things got interesting. Despite having a product that users loved, we faced some real challenges in the market. Our marketing efforts weren't reaching as many people as we'd hoped, and we were up against some pretty big global platforms. Plus, we needed to build stronger relationships with more celebrities to really make the platform valuable for users.
Learnings
This journey with Kooha taught us some valuable lessons. First and foremost, we learned that building a great product is only half the battle. Even though we created something users loved using, we needed a strong marketing strategy to match our product development efforts. It's like having an amazing restaurant – if people don't know about it, they can't enjoy the food!
We also gained deep insights about our local market. Things like understanding how Nigerians prefer to pay for services and what makes them trust a platform became crucial parts of our learning. These cultural nuances played a bigger role than we initially expected.
Perhaps most importantly, we learned the value of keeping our ears to the ground. Continuously listening to user feedback and monitoring how people used the app helped us spot problems early and make improvements quickly. It's an ongoing conversation with our users that never really ends.
